Formed in the fall of 1992, The Awakening were an early progenitor of the 1990s Southside Richmond music scene. Although, a band for only a short time, The Awakening played a handful of energetic live shows and recorded a single demo in the spring of 1993 before disbanding, with some members going on to form Broken Chains of Segregation.
